What is“Japan Quest” 2008?For the second summer in a row, two friends set off in search of the best Japan has to offer, from rowdy summer festivals to ancient temples hidden away among the pines. Japan Quest (www.japanquest.jp) is a Japanese website featuring online video created for Japan-lovers worldwide.
The pair will start out in the beautiful northern town of Takayama, near the World Heritage thatched village of Shirakawago. Over the next ten days, they’ll work their way south west. They’ll stop at Kouga, home to one of the great historical ninja clans, and then head for the great shrines at Ise, possibly the most sacred spot in Japan. Next it’s off to sample the splendors of the ancient capital city Nara, then onward to Koyasan, a spectacular mountaintop temple complex. The two will finish their trip on the island of Shikoku, taking in the colorful Awa Odori festival before exploring some of the 88 temples that circle the island, linked by Japan’s most famous pilgrimage route.
The website includes their diary, travel route, photo journal, and videos. We hope that Japan Quest will be a valuable resource for anyone interested in Japanese travel or culture, wherever they may live, while giving our Japanese visitors a fresh perspective on their own country.
